Singing with Expression!
Methods for authentic and adventurous song interpretation
How do jazz vocalists make their mark in today’s music world? How do they give their listeners a captivating and memorable musical experience that is sincere and unpredictable? The most successful and lauded jazz singers today have each developed their own point of view, both in the way they set their songs musically/stylistically and in how they interpret and phrase the song lyrically.
In this hands-on workshop, renowned vocalist, arranger, and jazz educator Rosana Eckert will take singers through her step-by-step approach to delivering a lyric with an adventurous and spontaneous spirit, a sincere point of view, and stylistic authenticity through a variety of grooves.
Concepts covered will include:
Phrasing and rhythmic/groove adventure
Expression through tone and technique
Melodic alteration and improvisation
Style exploration
Arranging tips
Intros and Endings
These concepts come from Rosana’s book, Singing with Expression: A Guide to Authentic and Adventurous Song Interpretation, published in 2018 by Hal Leonard.
