A terrific Vocal workshop at Cathy’s studio - Sunday 9/22 -

From one of JAZZ CAMP WEST’S favorite vocal teachers!

11:30am to 3:00pm $60

“Smooth… soulful…deeply sensuous and romantic” – These are just a few words used to describe the music of Nicolas Bearde. His silky baritone sound invites comparisons to Jon Lucien, Lou Rawls, and Joe Williams, and his upcoming album, “I Remember You”, re-imagines the timeless songs of one of his earliest influences, Nat “King” Cole, where with supple phrasing, passionate delivery, and fresh arrangements by Josh Nelson, long-time pianist for the late Natalie Cole,

Bearde breathes new life into Nat’s trove of enduring classics which include,“ L-O-V-E”, “Straighten up and Fly Right”, and “Tenderly”.

Sept 21 – Vocal Workshop

Renowned Jazz Recording Artist, Nicolas Bearde, will help vocalists develop repertoire and performance technique with a focus on Jazz, Pop and Blues music styles.

Learn to understand, interpret and perform these popular music genres with soul and creativity.  Focus is also given to presentation, stage presence and understanding the professional working

environment.  Participants are asked to bring two songs, with charts, for study – one ballad and one up-tempo number in their chosen genre for performance and evaluation.

In 1986 Nicolas became part of Bobby's ground-breaking a cappella group. After an arduous series of auditions and performances the group jelled in 1989, with Bearde on board. Today that entity is known around the world as   "Voicestra"

When Bobby decided to take a break from the group in the mid-90's, Bearde and other members of "Voicestra" branched off into a smaller unit, and named themselves,  SoVoSò. "We followed in the improvisational tradition of "Voicestra", but added more gospel, Latin and R & B elements," he says. SoVoSò went on to win numerous awards and honors, among them 1st-place at the renowned a cappella summit CASA awards, and nominations for "Best Group", "Best Album" and Nicolas as "Best lead vocalist". Throughout the 1990's, while developing his acting skills and sideline, and participating in the a cappella adventures of" Voicestra" and SoVoSò, Bearde continued to do his solo thing.
