Cathy is a co-founder and the President of a Los Angeles based organization called the California Pop & Jazz Council. Dedicated to keeping our quality music out in the world, recognized and respected. Honoring greatness around us in our music community. And keeping culture alive. It's in our hands! We had performances which showed our singing, acting and writing skills! This organization was recently discontinued, but had a beautiful life for about 5 years, with 3 annual special events…at The Jazz Bakery and Catalina’s Jazz Club.  We honored several special leading musicians, as well as the movie actor/recording artist Herb Jeffries.

I am the Chair of the Board for More Art Inc. What an artist does with his art is vitally important. An artist capturing the heart of his or her audience is achieving a victory far more complete than the conquest of an empire. An artist is a warrior who causes effects on an audience. And with today’s instantaneous global communication, those effects could morally cripple an entire culture in a matter of decades or just as surely create a new age of enlightenment and grace. Which it will be is in the hands of the artist.

Advisory Board:
Karen Black, David & Raven Kane Campbell, Chick & Gayle Corea, Johnny Lewis, Jim & Tamra Meskimen, Judy Norton, Bettie Ross, Harriet Schock, Cathy Segal-Garcia and Persia White.

Starting in 2009, Cathy created a show called "The Singers' Roundtable", in which she interviews one or two Pro jazz vocalists, with impromptu bursts into song, accompanied by a fabulous pianist! The first two were held at the world-famous Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles ( The first show featured vocalists Tierney Sutton (, and Australia's Ingrid James ( The second show featured Sherry Williams (, and Cheryl Barnes (

Another forming group was formed out of Ms. Segal-Garcia's panel at the IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) in January of 2006. On the panel were distinguished jazz vocalists/clinicians Mark Murphy, Madeline Eastman, Kathy Kosins, Michele Weir and Jay Clayton. This Alliance is setting up a network of workshops across the planet, who are constantly active and open for traveling clinicians. This is in its beginning stages, for more information, contact Cathy.

The Blue Whale

The Blue Whale is one of the leading jazz clubs in Los Angeles for modern jazz! Known the world over, owner and creator Joon Lee is my former student, and I couldn’t be more proud of him! He’s created the most aesthetic space for artistic creation, and all who play there love it, and all who go there love it too! Any night of the week you can see and hear the very best musicians, from L.A. and all over the country and world!
